Foremerge
Coding agents announce what they will change before they change it, so plans collide early.
About Foremerge
Foremerge is an open-source coordination protocol for coding agents, built above Git. Each agent keeps its own worktree, but first announces what it is about to touch ("I am going to change the sendEmail function") in a small shared database inside the project's .git folder. Claude Code, Codex and Cursor sessions on the same machine all read the same list.
Why it matters: Git compares text, not intent. Two agents can make edits that are each reasonable and land in different files, and Git merges both without complaint. If one moves every caller onto a new StripePaymentService while the other adds PayPal to the old PaymentService, the PayPal work ends up stranded. Foremerge flags the clash while both worktrees are still clean.
Rust, Apache-2.0, about 540 stars at the time of listing. Version 0.5.1 is a pre-1.0, local-first MVP: the CLI, JSON API and MCP server work, schemas may still change, and coordination across machines is out of scope.
