About Context Mode
Context Mode is an MCP server that keeps raw tool output out of your coding agent's context window. Tool calls run in a sandbox and only the result comes back. The project's own example takes 315 KB down to 5.4 KB, a 98% cut; a single Playwright snapshot would otherwise cost 56 KB.
Why it matters: it also records file edits, git operations, tasks, errors and decisions in SQLite, so when the conversation compacts it retrieves only what is relevant instead of dumping it all back. And it pushes the agent to write a script that computes an answer instead of reading 50 files to work it out: in its example, 47 reads at 700 KB become one call at 3.6 KB.
TypeScript, about 30,900 stars at the time of listing, with support for 17 platforms. In Claude Code it installs as a plugin: /plugin marketplace add mksglu/context-mode.
